2008
Quent
Cordair Fine Art, the world-renowned purveyor of Romantic
Realism, has opened a new 3600 square-foot suite of galleries
at 1301 First Street in Napa, California. After
thirteen successful years in Burlingame, on the San Francisco
peninsula, gallery owners Quent and Linda Cordair have chosen
to relocate their growing business to the heart of the Wine
Country. The new location doubles their gallery space and,
according to the Cordairs, was specifically selected to
provide visiting clientele with a local esthetic that .

Where in Napa Valley

A patriotic red, white and blue water tower,
a soothing cascading water feature downtown and a stone
chimney standing sentry in a vineyard together provide another
piece to what makes the Napa Valley what it is. These three
icons are clues for this month’s “Where In The
Napa Valley?” It was just after 9/11 that Hank and
Linda Bathey decided to build the three-story, patriotic
water tower that faces Monticello Road, just east of Silverado
Trail. The tower is not only a tribute to the United States
troops serving abroad, but also is the fire protection source
for Bathey’s property that surrounds the water tower.
Bathey brought the bought the property.

If
you need a reason to head off the radar for a couple of
days before the weekend, this is it: Midweek spa specials
are the flavor of the season in Napa Valley’s Calistoga.
Included with a room-for-two in Mount View Hotel & Spa’s
package are two spa treatments: Each guest receives a 25-minute
hydrotherapy bath plus a Swedish massage or a facial (both
50 minutes). The total package is $319 (pre-tax), which
includes an in-room Continental breakfast, available Sundays
through Thursdays until April 30. You’ve got to act
a little more quickly before relaxing into Chelsea Garden
Inn’s midweek special, which ends March 16. Guests

minerals or seaweed are among the enticing smorgasbord of
options) at nearby Lavender Hill Spa, followed by a 30-minute

Odd
Bedfellows - Wine and Mud
Written by Kristen Ball
February

Wine
and mud may seem like odd bedfellows, but in Calistoga,
Calif., on the northern edge of Napa Valley, the two go
hand in hand. Tourists flock to this corner of wine country
to dip themselves in the mineral rich mud and natural hot
spring-fed pools at the spas that line downtown Calistoga,
and of course enjoy the area’s most famous agricultural
offspring, wine. The Lodges at Calistoga Ranch, a fractional
ownership development on the property of a five-star hotel,
is one of the few private residence clubs in Napa for those
second home shoppers looking for an alternative to a traditional
vacation home. Luxury hotel operator Auberge Resorts opened
the Calistoga Ranch resort in 2004 and quickly added 27
Owner Lodges. One-tenth shares of 2,500 square foot two-bedroom
villas go for $435,000. Owners are entitled to a minimum
of two weeks of planned use a year and unlimited last minute
trips, depending on availability. Exchanges are available
with Esperanza, Auberge’s Cabo San Lucas resort, where

Schramsberg put U.S. Stamp on Sparkling Wine
Mary Rourke | Los Angeles
Times
February 20, 2008
Jamie Davies, who with
her husband, Jack, founded Schramsberg Vineyards in California's
Napa Valley, one of the first vintners in the U.S. to produce
sparkling wines using traditional French champagne methods
and grapes, died Feb. 12 at her home in Calistoga, Calif.
She was 73. The cause was complications from Parkinson's disease,
according to Schramsberg spokeswoman Joy Henderson. Mrs. Davies'
husband died in 1998. In the mid-1960s the Davieses bought
a run-down estate in Napa Valley and began making sparkling
wines using the French technique. Soon they were able to produce
wines that mixed pinot noir and chardonnay grapes, which are
used in French champagne. "The Davieses were pioneers,"
said Mitchell Davis of the James Beard Foundation that awarded

and Advice
By Joetta Anderson
The greatest thing about a vacation in Napa Valley is choice.
Here are some helpful hints to ensure that your vacation,

Rental to your preference of activities, is perfect for you.
Let’s face it. Whether you long for the serenity of
a quiet, slow paced, restful getaway or a faster paced, activity-laden

the Napa Valley scene. Accommodations can vary, too. So, be

of everyday business life? Whether you choose a Napa Valley
Bed and Breakfast or a Vacation Rental, the choices are many!
